The Gaia Minute
We can do so by becoming conscious of our profound interconnection with the planet, awakening to our role in the co-creative process of life, and holding in our hearts all sentient and insentient beings.
We can pray, meditate, hold intention or simply visualize all Gaia, and ourselves, as healed, healing, whole, radiant. When thousands of people join together in an endeavor such as this, the awareness and energies so generated can bring miraculous changes. And when each of us does it in our own time zone, our Mother Earth and all of benefit from a round-the-clock and round the world healing.

An ideal world

Hundreds of years ago, in the section of the ideal kingdom of Rama- Rajya, the poet-sage Gosvami Tulsidas wrote these words in Ramcharitmanas:
” Trees in the forest blossom and bear fruit throughout the year. The elephant and lion live together as friends. Nay, birds and beasts of every description have forgotten their natural animosity and develop friendly relations with one another.
Birds sing and beasts fearlessly move about in the woods in distinct herds, making merry all the time. The air breaths cool, soft and fragrant; bees hum even as they move about laden with honey. Creepers and trees drop honey to those who ask for it; cows yield milk to one's heart's content.
The earth is ever clothed with crops; even in the Treta age[..and Kali yug] the conditions of Satyayuga prevail.Conscious of the fact that the Ruler of earth is no other than the Universal Spirit, the mountains bring to light their mines containing jewels of every description. Every river carries in it excellent water - cool, transparent and pleasant to the taste.
The oceans keep within their bounds and scatter jewels on their shores for men to gather. Ponds are all thick with lotuses and every quarter is clean and bright. The moon floods the earth with her rays, while the sun shines just as much as necessary. Similarly, clouds pour forth showers for the mere asking so long as Sri Ramachandra wields the sceptre.
The oceans keep within their bounds and scatter jewels on their shores for men to gather. Ponds are all thick with lotuses and every quarter is clean and bright. ”

As we grow into universality, it is important to go within and see what is our ideal world. What do we dream about? What can strike us with wonder? This is the source of the peace and healing that we can channel to the world.

The Blind Men and the Elephant : Facets of Ourselves

Who has not heard of the story of the blind men and the elephant? It has stood the test of time, and of universality. There are so many lessons it teaches that it's worth going over them.
[If you would like to go over the story, it is easy to find the story on the web- just type in the words “blind men and the elephant” in a Google search engine. There is a poem by John Godfrey Saxe which is also quoted in full.]
At various times in life, each of us is blind. When faced with a novel situation, we use our knowledge to understand it. Our brain, wired with the gestalt principle, fills in the gap. And voila! The leg of an elephant becomes the trunk of a tree, and the tail: a stout rope! Bringing this into everyday life: the different manners of people become “bad manners” or “wrong behavior”, and their customs, “strange customs”.
Each of us plays different roles: son/daughter, sibling, spouse, friend, companion. Our behavior in each of these roles reveals only a facet of ourselves. In the same way, we can see only a facet of the people whom we meet. Here is a question to ponder on and share: Is it important to get to know the facets of people we meet? The ones we don't see in interacting with them? Why? Why not? How can we see those facets?
The blind men are also our senses. Each is beautifully designed to respond to one specific type of stimulus. Thus, eyes respond to light only and cannot sense sound waves, while ears do just the opposite. It would be fun to think how we would perceive the world if we had only one sense organ. Very limited! The lesson here is that it is the senses working in unison that make us understand the world around us.
But do we fully perceive even our physical reality? What about infra-red rays? Or ultra-violet? Scientific evidence shows us that they exist; and they can affect our well-being, but we cannot perceive them. Examples can multiply of physical things that we do not sense, but which do affect us. It's amusing to think that if we had the eyes of a fly and could see 360„a, the world would be very different from what it seems to us. When we say “I believe only what I can see and hear and touch”- let us keep in mind this limitation.
Yet doesn't each mother rightly claim to have “eyes at the back of my head”?
Well, somewhere we are aware that we have senses that extend beyond the conventional five! Or at least, we know that we need more senses than we have?
Perhaps we already do. We all are aware of “gut-feel”, prickly feelings, shudders at some places, a feeling that something is not quite right, a nice feel about a person or place which has nothing to do with the looks.
We have more senses that we know about. Isn't it time to learn to use them?
Try an exercise.
When you are alone, whether in bed or in the shower, out walking or working out: take three deep breaths. Then become aware of all the things that your eyes can see: in front, focus on the nearest and farthest things. On the sides, focus on all the things that your eyes can see near and far. Then- close your eyes. Just watch what you see against the screen of your eyelids. Yes, there are names for those things: after-images, negative after-images. Yes, there are explanations. But just for now, just watch. No judging, no categorizing, no explanation. Just watch.
The blind person can open his perception to what s/he senses. Yes, the blind can see. They do see. They just have to know that they do. There are none so blind as those who WILL not see!
You can do this exercise with sounds. After the three cleansing breaths, become aware of all the sounds that you can hear around you. After a few moments, become aware of sounds that are outside the room that you are in. And then the very farthest sounds that you can hear.
How is it that we are not always aware of the sounds so far from us? Our ears are sensing them, but our brain is keeping them in our subconscious, because it can deal with only a few sounds at a time. It selects. We hear but we do not listen.
Now draw your attention inward, to the sounds made by your own body. What are the closest sounds that you can hear?
Isn't it interesting how many sounds are all around and within us? The brain limits us to what we can deal with. Perhaps we need to stay in awareness of these sounds whenever we can. We are not limited by our senses. We are limited by what we have taught our brains that we can deal with.
Please share your experiences.It is through sharing that the blind men can get the whole picture of the elephant!

Learning Qigong

Learning something new is so energizing! And when it is qigong, which recently came into my life - and, I realize, came back - it reconnects at many different levels.
First, it was a dear friend who is teaching me. Then, I realized that in a series of synchronicities many years ago in Singapore, I had encountered a group of Falun Gong practitioners, and learned qi-gong from them. At first, it seemed so natural, as if I'd been doing it all my life- even the arm held sideways, which is usually very difficult for me. Perhaps because it is wonderful in a group, I did not continue it when I came to the U.S.
I would see people doing tai-chi, and get very drawn to it. Still am. But qigong—it brings to mind visions of the sacred mountains of China, and I feel an inner thrill beyond measure.
How well qigong fits with the practice of Reiki healing! China and Japan coming together.

And the Dao—you feel the words of Laotse move the mind as the movements of qigong move the body-mind-spirit.Once when I was doing tai-chi, following the teacher on T.V., our cat friend Whiskers got all crazy and started doing his own cat brand of jumping yoga-taichi!
They say that qigong was learned from watching animals; perhaps animals sometimes remember this from watching humans?!
Tai Chi and Qi Gong Immunity Boost:
This study was intended to examine whether 5 months of moderate Taiji and Qigong (TQ) practice could improve the immune response to influenza vaccine in older adults. The vaccination resulted in a 173, 130, and 109% increase in HI titer at 3, 6, and 20 weeks post-vaccine, respectively, in the TQ group compared to 58, 54, and 10% in CON. |

Tao of healing: Healers from with-out
~Meenakshi
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From the Tao Te-Ching:
#64
He who acts, spoils;
He who grasps, lets slip.
Because the Sage does not act, he does not spoil,
Because he does not grasp, he does not let slip.
The affairs of men are often spoiled within an ace of completion.
By being careful at the end as at the beginning
Failure is averted.
What types of creations will be in alignment with the new? Things that make us feel good or pamper us (the arts or self-care, for example). Anything that relates to service for those in transition (these areas will only be able to be accessed for brief periods of time by practitioners…healers will be non-existent, as healing by another is forced and unnatural, and comes from the outside. If you are wondering why Jesus was a healer, for instance, that is a whole other story for another time). Anything containing the energy of simplicity and purity. Anything that relates to self-sufficiency…or organic, natural building, community gardening, the environment, honoring the earth, etc. These are but a few examples.
HOW FEELS THE BODDHISATTVA
Sep. 15th, 2007 | 03:57 pm
HOW FEELS THE BODDHISATTVA
How feels the boddhisattva,
When s/he finally moves into the light
What does s/he feel when s/he passes through the door
That s/he held open for so long
Not opening nor closing,
Just holding it open
For the traveler who is ready to transit
The one who just needs to know light exists
And the one who feels it within the deepest recesses of darkness
[For the boddhisattva has been in all these spaces and selves]
And most of all for the other boddhisattva
Who is now ready to move
When all s/he senses have healed
When no action is required to be taken
Only growing into awareness
When all around there are only healers
How feels the healer then?
How feels the lightworker
When it is finally time to be light
To let go of caring, way-showing, lightening
The ultimate sacrifice may not be to leave the world of desire
But to desire to let go of the world
To pass through that threshold whence once s/he allowed the world to pass
In loving light
Sending healing
Aug. 27th, 2007 | 09:33 pm
mood:
pleased
Those attuned to Usui Shiki Ryoho are taught to send healing at a distance of space and time. It is done with intent and symbols.
What are we sending, to whom and how?
Does Reiki start with intent?
Who is it who is sending Reiki?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Imagine the time you were not aware of Reiki. Passing by an accident, two people fighting, a downbeat home, homeless people, a parent yelling at a child, someone hurt, someone ill,....what thoughts went through your head? What emotions? How did you feel? What did you think? What did you do?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now think of how you respond to each situation as a Reiki healer. How you intend Reiki in each situation, how you feel when you do that.
And that is all there is.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reiki did not start when we did; but we come to it each time we are aware of it. We bring it into the ego level, and raise consciousness to the healing level. All we are doing is becoming aware of it. Just watch its flow, become joyful in it, swim in it like dolphins live in water, fly like a bird feeling the flow of air, dig deep like a burrowing animal sensing the earth. For in Reiki, we are all connected.
Why do we start a flow of healing? To feel joyful.
Why do we ask for a flow of healing? To feel comforted.
Why do we receive a flow of healing? To feel connected.
Just as you and I send healing to those who may not be aware we did so...how many must be sending us healing without our awareness? Connect to the healing universe. It has always been.
In loving light
Meenakshi
